HUMSS or The Humanities and Social Sciences strand is one of the academic tracks of senior high school in the Philippines. This strand focuses on oral communication, media and information, and enhancing your reading and writing skills. There is a lot of research and presentation involved in this strand too.

The HUMSS strand is designed for those who wonder what is on the other side of the wall. In other words, you are ready to take on the world and talk to a lot of people. This is for those who are considering taking up journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science-related courses in college.

If you take this strand, you could be looking forward to becoming a teacher, a psychologist, a lawyer, a writer, a social worker, or a reporter someday. This strand focuses on improving your communication skills. Oh! And priesthood is a choice in here too!

This strand also covers a wide range of disciplines that delve into the investigation and inquiry of the human conditions that uses empirical, analytical, and critical methods of studying human behavior and societal changes. Students pursuing college degrees on this strand will have a deeper understanding of arts, culture, literature, politics, and society and how the complex interplay of these facets help them appreciate individual behavior and social group and the pressing issues corresponding them.

Students in HUMSS develop the needed knowledge and skills in bringing about positive change through the study of social science theories and concepts, community-based realities, study of culture, society and politics, discussion on moral issues.

What are the benefits of studying humanities?

The humanities help us understand others through their languages, histories and cultures. They foster social justice and equality. The humanities encourage us to think creatively. They teach us to reason about being human and to ask questions about our world.

One of the advantage of taking this strand is that, your speaking skills will enhance and this strand you can build and boost your self confidence. Many of the teenagers are lack in communication and become introvert. In this strand will help you to communicate and build your confidence.
